Geoff Tate's Operation: Mindcrime showmanship was a little bit silly with his leg up in the air most of the night, and his torn skinny jeans would look better on a 22-yr-old girls. The balance was completely off, I wish the sound had been up to its usual high quality. The bass could not be heard, and the keyboard was overbearing most of the time, especially when in modes that didn’t resemble a piano or organ. If I didn’t see the cymbals gleaming after being hit, I would swear there were none, the bass drum was overpowering. The concert was definitely mellower than in the past, it was disappointing. I wanted my 12 year olds to have a fun upbeat time at their first “grown-up” concert, but they kept saying, “I usually skip this song because it is too slow.” Based on the strength of the vocals and the entertaining manner in which the show is presented, I give it a low B. Geoff Tate has one of the best voices I have ever heard, and it hasn’t waned over the years.
